From September 7 to 27 2021, Bark Europa sailed from Scheveningen in the Netherlands to Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This is a bit of what my life onboard was like.
We started the 02:00 watch by baking some bread; my two watchmates will have to bake their own during the next trip and they haven't had a chance to try it yet. We braced square really slowly to not break the whisker poles or the stunsail gear. We tasted our bread during breakfast and it was pretty damn delicious!
We started the afternoon b centering the mizzen boom and then split up to do different tasks. I put vaseline on the main mast with and noticed the skysail gear was stuck in the topgallant halyard block. The lines will have to be changed because they’re really damaged.
We had a nice coffee break with cookies, one of my watchmate was very disappointed to learn it was only one cookie per person... I spent most of the afternoon doing a grommet lesson in the deckhouse. The afternoon finished in a rush with a quick furl of the fore royal and a safety lines rigging for some heavier weather coming. We had chocolate mousse for dessert though.
